Life is an adventure and when everyone asks you to join them on the known path. Tell them you’ll think about it and jump on the dream you have. The great thing about the known path is it’s known. When you’re done exploring you can hop back on.
You’ll be mocked
Yeah you’ll have those who mock and laugh. They will mock and laugh regardless of if it’s you or someone else. It is by the discipline and habit that they mock. They have not challenged their world views or have lowered their expectations that they’d rather watch a rising star crash then attempt to rise themselves.
You’ll be told not to
You’ll have the pessimists. They will be lost in their myopic view of the world. Sucked into the minutia of negativity. Not because it truly is negative but because we’re affected by how we view the world. They’ll tell you 5 good reasons why you shouldn’t be doing something. But they are so caught up in their negativity they haven’t realized you only need one.
You’ll be challenged by convention
You’ll encounter the confused. They’ll be wondering why you’re so weird for not getting a regular job. For giving up the means of production so that someone else can have it. They’ll ask you why you’re working for the long term dollar when you could have a penny today.
Ignore them. You’re the protagonist here not them. Narrate your story how you want it to be narrated. It’s your plot, voice and legacy not theirs.
To the creatives, the crafters and the visionaries it’s better to work the long road that’s lonely. The age of Prometheus is rising and it’s the burden of everyone with the vision to step forward to do so. Compare the two lives. The nervous career and security focused person. Stumbling quietly, ideas suppressed, dreams ignored. As opposed to the adventurer who passionately shares their ideas. Offers to make a better widget or a new widget never before seen or maybe to save money for others.
The age of Prometheus is on the rise.
The world as our ancestors knew it favored the concerned, the worried and the cautious. 95% of the population subsisted in this mindset. It was important in the beginning. It kept our species alive. During this though the other 5% discovered and risked. This 5% learned chicken eggs were delicious, some mushrooms were dangerous, the world was not flat and that the moon isn’t so far away.

It is the mandate of Promethean adventurers like entrepreneurs, scientists and crafters to take what is inside of them and manifest it outwards. This capacity is within us all to varying degrees. This is the one reason why you should do your startup. We only live once. If the thought of that is terrifying and you can only think of your friends, family or finding a great vacation spot- then that’s what will make you happy. But if you think of how the world will remember you, what good you can bring, how you can change just one little thing or some other inarticulate burning to share something inside of you. Then you are a Promethean in waiting.
